Drywall and then some...

It's getting exciting up in HERE!!!!  We have windows and walls...and cable outlets, and electrical outlets and plumbing.  Hooray!

 Family Room

 Kitchen/Sunroom

 Dining Room

Oh, and how could I forget...our beautiful exterior is done.  All except the front door paint (will be red) and the white carriage garage doors.  :)

It's all coming together!  And, my creative juices have started flowing again and I am working on Max's new room...a baseball room for my young athlete.  He will no longer have to share a room with his sister.

I purchased this headboard and footboard for $15 at an online yard sale.  And, gathered up some used bats, some bought for very little and others given to me. Score!  My FIL cut them in half for me and I plan to sweet talk my hubs into attaching them to the headboard.

And...the bats!

I also got this dresser for $15 from a friend (thank you!) and I am in the first stage of its makeover as well...gotta keep you wanting more, right?

Stay tuned for the next phase...

The roof, the roof, the roof...is on our house!

Have I told you lately how impatient I am?  Man, it felt like forever to get to this point...but, isn't that roof just magnificent?

We walked through it last week to point out all of the electrical outlets and cable outlets...ended up tacking on another $300 to the final bill because of adding more.  :/  We are all warned of the dreaded "extra costs" involved in building a new home...like the garage door openers.  How many of us would assume that a garage door opener would not be included in the base price of a home?  I know I certainly assumed as much, only to be told no, that will be an extra $700, please.  But, in the end it is worth it to not have to lift that garage door up and down like "they" did in the "old days."   I sure hope the remote control for the TV is included.

All kidding aside, the builders are doing an AWESOME job.  We love it already.  I am almost able to picture us relaxing in the sunroom...

Or, watching TV in the family room...

Or, "working" in the office...

The siding is scheduled to go up next week.  They have since locked us out for insurance and security purposes, so hopefully I can continue to get in there to take some pics to share.

I am still decorating in my head and will share some color choices soon.

Our Hole...In The Middle of Our Street.

"Is it done yet..."

"How about now, is it done yet?"

                                                         "IS IT DONE YET???"

Patience is a virtue...I know, I know.  Let's just say I am far from virtuous.  And, building a house...well, that is for patient people.  So, needless to say, I am getting antsier by the minute.

After getting all of our paperwork signed and filed and getting our approvals and sending our (large) deposits, we were fully charged up and ready to see this house go up.  And, so we waited...

...and waited a bit more

...and then waited just a bit more.

FINALLY, this past week, we got the word that they moved some dirt!  Do you hear the angels singing?  I sure do..."HALLELUJAH!!"

Here she is...our beautiful hole.  :)

We've got LAND

Remember this movie...Far and Away?  It came out in 1992 (yikes!). You know, before Tom Cruise jumped on the couch.  It is a great movie.  A love story.  And in the end, Joseph and Shannon get their sought after land.

Shannon Christie: Look, you've got your land.
Joseph Donnelly: But all the land in the world means nothing to me without you.

While not as cinematic and heart wrenching, our story also starts with land.  And, here it is in all of its greenery.  I am honestly just happy to see it without snow!  Been waiting a while.

All of the paperwork (SO MUCH PAPERWORK) and appraisals and approvals are complete.  Now, we wait for the builders to start digging.  We hope it happens soon!  Did I mention we are excited to get this process going?  :)  SQUEAL!

We're building a house!

A little over eight years ago, my husband and I rocked our families' world when we announced we were moving out of our little hometown.  We were moving approximately 15 miles away...18 minutes door to door (yes, I timed it).  However, you would have thought we were moving overseas.

Since then, we have heard, "when are you guys moving back?"  And, don't you want Max to be an "insert hometown mascot?"

In these eight years, we have laughed these off...that is, until this past winter.  You see, in our town, Max can't play organized basketball until he is a 3rd grader (even though he is an older 2nd grader and ready - September birthday).  GASP!  So, we found a team in our hometown that he could play on.  I traveled those 15 miles for every practice and game.  No big deal.  But, then my husband tells me that he wants him to also play football for this organization.  Ok, but now I am thinking to myself, "if Max IS going to be the hometown mascot, then why on earth are we living in another town?"

We made a pros and cons list for moving...this wasn't easy.  I, especially, have developed quite the soft spot for our home of eight years.  We have made lifelong friends, have gotten to know people in the school system, etc.   But, our hometown is the home of our entire family and some other lifelong friends.  Plus, we know a lot of people in the school system, teachers, principals, coaches.

And, my husband sweetened the pot by suggesting we build a new house.  I was sold.  :)

So, I thought I could document all of the fun we have along the way in my new blog.  From breaking ground to picking paint colors and everything in between.  Join us on our journey...from house to HOME!
